Precision Engineering.
Proven Chemistry.

At PH1 Systems, we don’t just produce nitrocellulose—we refine it to meet the strictest global standards. Our advanced production process, premium inputs, and safety-first systems ensure reliability for even the most mission-critical applications.

Our Production Process

Grade A -Purity Feedstock

The process begins with sustainably sourced Canadian wood pulp—renowned for its uniform cellulose structure and low impurity profile. This ensures a stable, consistent foundation for producing high-grade nitrocellulose. Controlled storage and handling protocols reduce variability across batches and support traceability, enabling precise chemical conversions in downstream processing.

Precise Nitration Reaction

The cellulose is treated with a precisely measured acid blend, replacing hydroxyl groups with nitrate groups. This essential chemical reaction controls the final product’s energy output and combustion profile. Our nitration process is closely monitored under strict safety protocols, using closed-loop systems to ensure consistent reaction conditions, minimal byproducts, and environmental safety compliance.

Purification & Stabilization

Following nitration, the compound undergoes repeated washing and pH adjustment to remove residual acids and stabilize the material. This critical step prevents long-term chemical degradation and ensures safety in storage and transport. Neutralization and filtration are conducted under strict quality protocols, ensuring every batch complies with international safety and performance standards.

Moisture Removal & Handling

Moisture is carefully extracted using temperature-controlled drying systems designed to prevent thermal decomposition. Our process balances energy efficiency with material integrity, reducing ignition risk during handling. Static control, safe transfer equipment, and continuous monitoring ensure the nitrocellulose maintains its stability while preparing for final testing and blending.

Performance Customization

Dried nitrocellulose from multiple batches is blended to meet precise nitrogen content, viscosity, and burn rate specifications. Tailored formulations serve defense, industrial, and specialty markets. Quality assurance and in-line testing during blending guarantee consistency, while our facility’s modular blending lines enable high-throughput production with customized output profiles.

Tailored performance for every application

PH1 Systems offers both industrial and energetic grades of nitrocellulose, customized to meet the needs of high-performance industries. Our blending and screening processes allow us to adjust critical characteristics such as nitrogen content, moisture levels, viscosity, and particle size distribution—ensuring each batch meets its precise performance target.
Nitrogen content ranging from 10.7% to 13.5%
Viscosity grades available in RS (alcohol-soluble) and WS (water-soluble) types
Particle size options for smooth film formation, controlled burn rates, or enhanced dispersion
